What Can I Do To Help Me Lose Weight?

Time and time again, I have been asked what can I do to help me lose weight?  Losing weight and keeping it off may seem like an impossible task, but in reality it doesn’t have to be that hard if you set some parameters up front and stick with them.

Listed below are 6 important things you can do to increase your chances of losing weight and keeping it off.  They are:

Set Weight Loss Goals

Setting weight loss goals will help you clarify what it is you want to achieve, and have a definitive plan of action for achieving it.

Having a plan makes it harder to make excuses for not following through.  It will help you stay motivated and allow you to track your progress along the way.

When setting your goals, you should include the following information:

-          What is your short term goal

-          What is your long term goal

-          What is your plan of action for achieving your goals?

-          Keep track of the progress you have made along the way

-          Leave room to make adjustments when necessary

Setting weight loss goals will increase your chances of success ten-fold.

Change Your Eating Habits

Adjusting your meal plans to include healthier foods with fewer calories is an effective way to gradually drop pounds.  In order to lose one pound, you must burn or eliminate 3500 calories. 

If you can cut your calorie intake by 500 per day, you will lose one pound a week.  Add in exercise and this amount will increase.

When adjusting your meal plan, you should incorporate healthier foods such as baked chicken, fish, whole grains, vegetables and foods rich in fiber.

Fiber rich foods will make you feel full longer and are also good for you.

Drink Lots Of Water

Water is essential for health and longevity.  Water keeps our bodies hydrated and is instrumental in digesting food and eliminating wastes and toxins from the body. 

Drinking a glass or two of water before meals has been shown to assist in weight loss.  This is because water gives you the feeling of being full and you will have the need to consume less food.

Also, substituting water for sugary drinks such as soda, is a great way to eliminate unnecessary and unhealthy calories, while at the same time promoting weight loss.

Exercise

Incorporating exercise along with a healthy diet is key to losing weight.  While eating healthier and cutting calories will definitely help you lose some pounds, adding in exercise will give your weight loss regime an extra kick. 

Exercise works to help you feel better overall and will help you keep the weight off long term if you make it a regular part of your life.

If you haven’t exercised in a while and find it hard to get moving, start out by walking and gradually increase to other aerobic and strength training exercises.

Regular exercise is also beneficial in warding off heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and a host of other medical conditions.

Supplements

Experts have mixed reviews when it comes to weight loss supplements.  Some feel they aid in weight loss and others feel they work but the side effects and risks are not worth the benefits.

However, many people have had great results using weight loss supplements.  If you decide to take this route, be sure to check with your physician before you begin any supplement.

Attitude

Having a positive attitude is key to achieving your weight loss goals.  You have to believe with every fiber of your being that you will lose the weight.  If you don’t believe in yourself you will find it very difficult if not impossible to stay committed to your goal.

To keep your attitude positive and your spirits up, start your morning off with positive affirmations such as, “I am losing weight and I feel fantastic”, “my body is beautiful and is becoming more beautiful with each day that passes”.  Develop affirmations that make you feel good and want to stick to your goal.

Every morning before you start your day stand in front of a mirror and repeat these affirmations to yourself until it becomes second nature.

Also, reading motivational books and listening to motivational audio programs is a great way to stay on track.
